AI agents as a resource
Put AI Agents Where They Earn the Most
Everyone is deploying agents; few can say what they earn. Epicflow can. It plans agents like anyone on your team and shows where an hour they free is worth the most: at your bottleneck.
An agent at work in your resource pool, planned and checked like anyone on your team.
Agents create work for the people who check them
An agent does not tire, but the person who checks its work does. Every run needs someone to give it context, judge the result and step in when it fails. Put agents on every process and that work lands on the few experts you were already short of. The agents keep running; the manager above them falls over.
The result is more activity and no more output. Your portfolio delivers at the pace of its scarcest resource, the bottleneck. An agent that adds checking work to that resource slows everything down.
Put agents at your bottleneck, and keep the checking off it
An hour freed at the bottleneck is an hour more output for the whole portfolio. An hour freed anywhere else changes little. So count the bottleneck hours an agent gives back, not the hours it works.
- Today. Your specialist at the bottleneck does the whole task. All of that time is bottleneck time.
- Checked by the specialist. An agent does the work; your specialist prepares and checks it. The task is done sooner, but around three quarters of the time is still bottleneck time.
- Checked by someone else. An agent does the work; a colleague prepares and checks it. The task takes longer from start to finish, and only about a quarter is left on the bottleneck.
The design rule. Whoever prepares and checks the agent's work should not be your bottleneck. That works where someone else can judge the result, because a standard exists. Where only the expert can judge it, start somewhere else.
What a freed hour is worth
Free 10% of your bottleneck's time, with first-pass reviews for example, and you deliver up to 10% more with the same people. They are already paid for, so profit rises far more.
of your bottleneck's time freed
more output, with the same people
more profit, at a 10% net margin with materials at 40% of revenue
Epicflow shows it per project. Bottleneck management shows where an agent counts, drag cost what each hour it frees is worth, and RRI (return on remaining investment) what that does for every project. Only Epicflow combines the three.
Enterprise AI agents as a resource
Your teams are using AI. Is the portfolio finishing sooner?
Speeding up work nobody was waiting for changes nothing. The work worth giving to AI is the work your other projects are queuing behind, at the bottleneck. Epicflow decides where AI capacity belongs. EpicStaff, the governed operating layer for AI agents, runs it.
-
Epicflow · Decides
-
Is anything waiting on it?
If it runs late, does a finish date move? Most work fails this test.
-
Does the wait cost money?
Some delays cost nothing. Epicflow puts a figure on each one.
-
Can a machine do it well?
Not quickly: well enough for a person to sign off. Then the AI resource joins your pool with capacity, a rate and dates.

EpicStaff: the governed operating layer for AI agents
- Runs in your own environment, on the model endpoint you choose.
- Every agent acts under a named identity, with role-based permissions.
- An exportable audit trail of prompts, tool calls, outputs and approvals.
- Start with prebuilt agents, or have agents built around your own workflows.
- Works on its own, or with Epicflow when portfolio priorities decide the work.
In use at the Dutch Ministry of Defence
Our AI agents run at the Dutch Ministry of Defence, connected to DefGPT, the ministry's own language model. One of them sets up new procurement projects in Epicflow from a template, with the buyers, phases and hours ready to plan. Users tell it in plain language what to change.
The staff who use them are not project managers by trade. They tell us they now set up a new project within a minute, without having to learn anything difficult first. It saves them a great deal of time, and more people are willing to work with the tool.
Questions about AI agents as a resource
Do agents replace people?
No. An agent takes work off your bottleneck so the same people deliver more. The aim is the right resources on the work that pays, not fewer people.
Which agents can Epicflow plan?
Agents from the platform you choose. In Epicflow they are resources like any other: planned, traceable and checked by a person.
Where do we start?
With your bottleneck. Send us one row per department and one row per project, and we show you where it is and what an hour freed there is worth. Then we look at which of its work an agent could take over, and who can check it.
Which AI models and agent platforms does Epicflow work with?
Epicflow connects to the large language model you choose: OpenAI (GPT), Azure OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), Mistral, Meta Llama, or a model inside your own environment. The Dutch Ministry of Defence runs our agents on its internal model, DefGPT. Epicflow has its own agents, such as the one that sets up a project from a template, and includes EpicStaff, the governed operating layer for AI agents. If you already run agents on Microsoft Copilot Studio, Salesforce Agentforce, ServiceNow AI Agents, Google Vertex AI Agent Builder, Amazon Bedrock Agents, OpenAI's Agents SDK, LangChain, CrewAI or n8n, Epicflow plans them as resources just the same: capacity, a rate, dates, and a person who signs off the output. Each connection runs under your own permissions.
